Bronwen was born exactly one week before her daddy's birthday. So yesterday, we got to celebrate another birthday in our house. Happy birthday Brian! It's fun to have some birthdays in January, as it can be a bit of a bland month otherwise.
I went on a stealth mission on Wednesday night to borrow a waffle iron from a friend... and so was able to surprise Brian with waffles for his birthday breakfast. They actually turned out pretty well, considering I don't think I've ever made waffles before. Nice and fluffy! I beat the egg whites separately before folding them into the batter and that seemed to make a big difference. We try to keep our small-kitchen-appliance situation to a bare minimum for simplicity's sake. It is easier than having all these little appliances that only do one thing and take up precious counter/ cupboard space (like a waffle iron!) So it was a nice treat to have something different for breakfast.

Waffles were a hit with the young lady. She ate 2.! And some raspberries and milk. |
Yum! (do you like our tablecloth, Mom Claus? :) |
Awesome man-apron from Mom and Dad Claus! Every man needs his own apron. |
Bronwen modelling her stylish and cozy Padraig slippers... thanks Grandma and Grandpa C! |
We dropped Bronwen off at our friend Tonya's where she had a lovely evening. Then Brian and I went downtown on a birthday date! We went to one of our favourite pubs, Nautical Nellie's.
Brian with our appetizer.. fresh steamed mussels! YUM! They were absolutely delicious. Wednesday is Mussel Night so we were in luck. |
Our delicious dinners. Brian had fish and chips (with dressing and gravy!) and I had a grilled chicken sandwich on a homemade bun. Fried and yummy and satisfying! |
To top it all off we went to Rocket Cafe, another one of our favourites. Tea and espresso and delicious trifle. |
