A Trip to Cottlesville

This past week I went with a friend of mine, Terri, and her two little ones out to her hometown in outport Newfoundland. Both of our husbands were away and it makes the long days and nights of looking after little kids by yourself a little easier when you have good company! We left on Monday and came back on Friday evening. Here are some pictures from our trip.

At a train on display in Lewisporte-- there are no trains running in Newfoundland anymore!

Huge snowplow!

Trying to get all four looking is a bit of a challenge (ages almost 1, 2.5, 3.5 and almost 2- my kids a year ago were almost exactly the same age as these two are now, they are 19 months apart as well :)

 Stopping for squid rings- yum!

in the playhouse at Terri's parents' house!

Claus children were not so sure about the boat..

Going up to the lighthouse in Twillingate

Going on a little hike

Another hike around Pot Cove Pond with the kids, half boardwalk and then the big trail up to this gazebo overlooking the ocean

Bronwen's first time fishing...

And first fish! A tomcod (young cod). She also caught 4 more little connors. Lots of hungry little fish at the end of the wharf, great for the kids.

Ice cream even though it was cold

Grumpy because Terri was distracting him from going on the wharf while the girls fished

Roadside picnic on the way home

Using the van to its full carseat potential!

A Hike and some Ocean

Here are the rest of the pictures from last week.

Bronwen the pie baker, hard at work.

Playing in their 'boat'

Hiking at Fort Amherst

See the iceberg?

There's a reason they call Newfoundland the Rock..

Taking pictures with Grandpa

This little lady hiked up the Southside Hills all by herself.. a 180 m elevation gain and pretty much straight up.. in rubber boots no less. We underestimated the abilities of our little hiker- after that I think she can hike most places around here on her own two feet! Not bad for being 3.

May Days

Here are a whole lot of pictures from our activities in the last few weeks.

First, a morning outing to a beautiful local park with some mom friends and their kiddies.

Lean into it...

After supper, to the park with Dad.

The grand occasion of Brian's convocation on May 26! Mom and Dad Claus came all the way out from Terrace for the occasion and a lovely visit.

Here are the PhD's getting ready to walk onto the stage.

They spent the whole ceremony up there.

In the procession down the big stairs to take their seats and start.

The moment of the hooding! Note picture on the big screen TV..

A concluding number by the woodwind ensemble

Harry Potter anyone?

Celebratory trip to Georgestown Bakery afterwards

Morning out at Lester's Farm- Bronwen's favourite part of the farm is the tractors

The least intimidating and therefore favourite animals

Making apple pie with the Baker Extraordinaire!

More to come!
